Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
We use Shopify in a retail store with the majority of our sales being in person using POS. We sell furniture and appliances, and offer an in house delivery service to deliver within a 100 mile or so radius. Whenever we sell to someone from outside our municipality, we have to charge them tax based on their home address where the furniture or appliance will be delivered because we live in a "Destination" state. I have searched and cannot find a way to charge nexus sales tax in Point of Sale. I understand that there are apps that will handle nexus for our website, but it is absolutely vital that we have these calculations done in the point of sale app while we are checking out our customers. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Hi @RyanThomas,
Nick here from Shopify. Great question!
The Shopify POS app applies taxes based on the store location that you assign to your POS device and it's not possible to specify any more detailed tax settings within the Shopify POS such as nexus sales tax. Something to remember is that store locations must be included in your shipping zones for taxes to be calculated correctly.
There is a very helpful guide which goes into more detail on setting up any and all tax rates for Shopify POS which you can see here. There is also a guide for adjusting tax rates in the Shopify POS here. I know this might not be ideal or exactly what you want to hear, but I will mention this to the appropriate team as a feature request for the future on your behalf.
I hope this does help you in some way.
All the best, Nick

Hi @RyanThomas,
Just for your information, we recently launched the exact feature you described in this post. Here is what the feature does to your tax:
I don't mean to be off topic, but having the feature right within the pos will not only save you money for a third party app, but also the time and step it takes to integrate the two apps.
If you are interested, please feel free to ping me.
Ryan a quick question , how do you incorporate serial no functionality if using shopify pos , coz generally appliances have it , can we quickly connect over a call we are starting appliance store here in louisville ky , any help would be appreciated!
