When on an ipad with a sprocket scanner and at the main POS screen my products that came with barcodes scan fine. When i san one of my custom barcodes it says it cant find the product. If i go to search and scan the same barcode it finds the product and the i have to manually add it to the cart. HELP.

This is an accepted solution.

  • Check that your custom barcode is entered in the barcode field as well as the SKU field, being in just SKU is not enough
  • Check when you scan the barcode if any extra characters appear like leading 0

I have a Zebra bar code printer and the item number I did custom codes for is A106 and i create the barcode to say the same. So both fields show A106. What is funny is when you go to search for products it finds it with the bar code but when at the main POS screen and ringing up items it does not recognize it. ? though, when on the POS screen is the scanner reading in a different format like numeric mode and in search are it is reading in another mode? It has to be something quirky like that.

It sounds like you are using a Code39 barcode. The Socket mobile support page here allows you to enable and disable different types of barcodes. Click on Code39 from the list then scan the enable barcode.

https://www.socketmobile.com/support/data-editing-barcode/enable-disable-data

Secondly if you haven't already installed the Socket mobile companion app (available from Apple / Google app stores) allows you to do test scans and see what is actually being output by the scanner.

Okay so I did some testing based off your first reply and here is what I have found. If I go into the inventory of the item and remove the SKU and UPC and scan the barcode for both of those fields and then go into the POS system it will scan at the home screen and the product search screen. So thank you for leading me to that. Not sure what difference it makes but that makes it work. Thank you.
