Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
I am EXTREMELY KEEN for this issue to be fixed and functionality to be restored to the previous version:
Prior to POS Version 7 – Scanning a product that had a common barcode for multiple variants (like a t-shirt with multiple sizes) used to open a variant pop-up to select which is being purchased.
Now it just auto-selects the first variant of the product (like "small") and adds that to the cart... giving you no way to change the variant. A mistake that's easily overlooked during an expedient checkout. This is a disaster for inventory tracking, and could easily result in overcharge or undercharge if the variants have different prices.
The only way to correctly add these products now is one of these SLOW workarounds:
1- Manually type the product name, select the product, select the variant. – The last step was the old functionality upon scanning the barcode.
OR
2- Once the wrong variant is in the cart, tap on it, select "View product details", tap the variants button under "Options", select the correct variant, hit "Add to cart", then manually remove the incorrect variant from the cart.
yes this is a nightmare for us! We use variants all the time and this is going to mess up our inventory counts for sure. After spending ages doing physical inventory this will ruin all that effort. It will be so easy for this to get missed by staff or myself ringing thru sales.
I am afraid to update to the new version after reading your comment. We have many products that share barcodes - have you gotten any feedback on the phone or elsewhere on this yet?
Well, my ipads updated automatically and I have the same issues as you do. Please @Shopify help us?
I've been on the support chat. I suggest you all do the same as I've been told they've escalated the issue to the technical team, but I can only imagine if a few others were vocal on chat help that it would move things forward quicker! You could quote the ticket number 30886166 if you don't want to explain it on the chat help.
Hey Toby, it looks like today's update is mostly fixing variant types. We have tried about 10% of our stock that has variants and there are a few aren't scanning correctly yet, but most are. Hoping that by tomorrow we have it all corrected.
