So how am I actually able to sell product just from making a website?

Can someone please explain that to me a little better and where to go to/how to get to the place where I can acually get the products I'm supposedly selling?

Hi @culater16

I get where you're coming from—it sounds like you’re just starting out and trying to figure out how selling online actually works. Setting up a Shopify store is one thing, but getting actual products to sell is another step entirely. Let me break it down for you in a simple way.

How Selling Online Works (Step-by-Step)

1-Choose What You Want to Sell – If you’re producing your own products, that’s great! You’ll be selling things you make. If not, you’ll need to source products from suppliers (I'll explain this below).

2-Set Up Your Shopify Store – Once your store is live, you’ll need to list products with descriptions, prices, and images.

3-Source Products (If You’re Not Making Them Yourself) – This is where you either:

  • Buy inventory from a wholesaler or manufacturer and store it yourself.
  • Use dropshipping (where a supplier ships directly to your customer when they order).

4-Market Your Store – You won’t make sales just by launching a website. You’ll need to drive traffic through social media, ads, SEO, or email marketing.

5-Process Orders & Ship to Customers – When a customer buys something, you either pack and ship it yourself or your supplier handles it for you.

Where to Get Products?

If you don’t have products yet, you need to source them. Here are your options:

  • Make your own products (if you’re a producer).
  • Buy from wholesale suppliers (like Faire, Alibaba, or local distributors).
  • Use print-on-demand (for custom shirts, mugs, etc., with services like Printful or Gelato).
  • Dropshipping (using apps like DSers or Spocket to sell products without holding inventory).

Where to Start?

  1. If you’re making your own products, set up your Shopify store and upload your items.
  2. If you need suppliers, check out Shopify’s dropshipping apps (Apps > Search "dropshipping" in Shopify App Store).
  3. If you want wholesale inventory, search for suppliers in your niche (Google “[your niche] wholesale suppliers”).

Let me know if you need help figuring out the best option for your business!

Best regards,
Daisy.
