There are a number of features available to all merchants, regardless of their Shopify plan, with some features being restricted by device. The basic features allow merchants to create orders and accept payments through the Shopify POS system.
You can use an external reader to process payments via a third-party gateway. You can also set up manual payment methods such as cash or mobile payments.
Merchants on the Shopify plan or higher will be able to access all Shopify for retail features. These additional features include the ability to print customized receipts, create POS-only staff accounts, use register shifts, integrate with supported hardware, and sell and accept gift cards.
