Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
I've emailed support to see if this is a bug or whether they have eliminated the INCREDIBLY USEFUL "Save Cart" feature in POS Lite? Anyone hear anything about this? I use this all the time in my store! Please fix!
I am also having the same issue. Was the removal intentional or something that was overlooked?
It's intentional - anything basic and useful has been removed to make you pay another $1068 a year for the Pro version. (They call it an upgrade - i call it extortion).
It was a right given to us, I understanding adding new features and asking payment for it. But this was already in the classic package. As if we were not paying 299/mo
Yep - total crock. The original POS classic was better and had this feature. You should be able to add this feature for minimal cost.
So Shopify has not done anything to update or respond to everyone's gripes on POS Lite?
This is terrible customer service.
All POS classic features should at the least be on the "new" POS Lite.
Has anyone found a good alternative?
Hi All, wanted to add in that I totally understand your frustration. We have just updated our app to work with the New POS and it while it doesn't restore Save Cart, it allows you to save draft orders quite efficiently and then recall them. You can check it out here: Draft Orders for POS. While the app does have a fee, please note that Shopify take 20% of that fee and that we are simply a small business trying to help other small businesses.
We are also looking into providing additional tools directly inside the app, including exchange handling and order editing. I would love to hear more about the features you are looking to include so we can add your name and feature to our priority list. Please feel free to message me directly as well!
It's not nice to put a lot of effort in a platform just to find out that shopify doesnt keep consistency and instead of giving loyal customers support and efficiency it takes away very basic features making the pos almost useless or a half baked software.
Today I needed to make and exchange, something we could do on the old POS and no I find that I cannot do that unless I pay almost $90 a month?
Exchanges and returns are essential and so frequent on any business that its just nuts to take that away. Its like buying a car and finding it has no reverse, and the call the dealer and being told that if you want reverse then you have to pay a significant extra amount.
It feels like extortion, specially for customers who had these features for years. You don't take that away and expect people to say: well, maybe shopify is right and i need to pay 90 bucks to be able to make a SIMPLE EXCHANGE! no way!
I heard the founder of shopify on the How I built this podcast once saying that his goal was to help small businesses. It looks like he forgot that.
And no, Shopify is not a small business, according to google:
"Shopify Inc. has displaced Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) as the nation's largest public company. The ecommerce platform provider's market capitalization surged to $120-billion Wednesday afternoon to eclipse that of the nation's largest lender.".
So, no... don't play the i'm struggling like you card.
Good luck fixing the save cart feature. Shopify doesn't give a crap about you, Just your money!
In a Nutshell you have just described the reason we are now leaving Shopify.
have been with Square for two months now - both for retail pos and now website.
Every feature i could need including full inventory sync and more functions supplied by Stocky etc.
The POS is paid for - and about 2/3 the costs of Shopify Pro - but we save by not having to have an upgraded website to work with the pos app and hardware.
We now have a retail system that is better than shopify Pro - and a website - all the report functions you need - and costs us no more than we had to pay when using the "free" classic pos app.
The lite version is basically useless. You can't even process a refund or exchange in store for something purchased online so I'm sure they removed the save cart from the lite version as it's still available on the pro version.
Same with us - need to be able to do a BASIC function of an exchange! surely!!
People need to add to this thread or create many threads if they are upset about the omission
of features we have had available to us before - that have been taken out of the POS Lite version.
And to do it just before the holidays . . . when businesses need it most.
**added note 11/1 - 4pm (pst)
I found a link that a Shopify support person requested us to use for feedback on the new POS.
I have copied my note on this thread to that link also. Maybe some of you will want to do the same.
At the least...maybe go there and add your concerns. Here is the link:
All-new Shopify POS
Very unethical, in my book
Here is a page listing the diffs between Lite and PRO. VERY disappointing.
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/migrate
* We use save cart all the time.
* We use pickup in store all the time.
* We do exchange for our online & brick&mortar sales all the time.
* We do ship to home all the time
* We look at any and all statistics that are available.
When a new & improved version of something is released, it is NOT normal to TAKE AWAY existing features. Usually, you improve them.
I don't know about anyone else...but we are trying to survive. We don't have $90 extra a month to spend on Pro.
Did I miss a survey of there members to see if these features were important or not? If so, I didn't see one.
I will be calling support as often as I can to bring this up while we look for an alternative.
I too am so disappointed that we can no longer SAVE CART or do an EXCHANGE!! I am a small business with only one employee, so we do not need all the other options that the Pro gives us. We just need the basic, but the LITE is not enough for what we pay. The SAVE CART feature is so important especially during busy season. I am thinking that it might be cheaper in the long run to just purchase a whole other check out station (for my 900 square foot store which is ridiculous!).
I tried the free trial of the pro and thought, it's not worth the extra money. When I downgraded to "LITE" I was shocked to find to make their "Plus" versions they just took away features that were there originally.
It's unbelievable! I use their payment processing, I buy thier gift cards (that we still can't check the balance of in the POS, even in "Plus") and this is how they show their appreciation for supporting their business.
To clarify what they are selling us here they should change the name of "Lite" to "Minus".
Shopify POS MiNUS it is...
I think we all agree that this was an unethical thing to do, but it seems they are not willing to compromise.
We HAD to subscribe to PLUS, just to get through this season.
We are looking at alternatives...
Some have already shared on this thread of alternatives they have checked on.
Let's keep doing that.
We will be actively looking to change things up after this holiday.
Yes definitely we decided to use shopify due to free POS. Now I am considering to go clover at my Cafe. They have a good deal nowadays.
