Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Sorry for the irritation, but is this POS a POS or not?
You've replaced the Save Cart with this Save Draft Order option on iOS, and it's a nightmare to work with. Whereas before it was a one-button press to save a cart, now we are expected to:
Save order
Put in customer info
Save
And to get it back:
Go to orders
Find the order in drafts
Hit Edit or Check Out
Check out immediately or risk screwing everything up
We cannot re-save the cart, either, if we need to make changes and hold it again. We also can't delete the cart from the POS screen -- we have to go into via the website and delete it from our desktop computer instead.
This change is beyond aggravating, holds everything up, and makes the likelihood of mistakes in checkout far higher. It was excellent and convenient before. This is so unnecessary.
I agree 100% and politely request the return of the Save To Cart feature in POS ASAP. I have customers that build up a cart over two days, I need to be able to retrieve and edit many times over that time and be efficient in checkout when everyone wants to check out simultaneously.
AGREED! We relied on Save Cart function for high-volume shopping, and when everyone's in a hurry to check out, having to create draft orders, retrieve draft orders, and not be able to edit without checking out is a complete disaster. Please bring back the save cart function!!
Hey @sucralose.
Thanks for reaching out and bringing this to our attention.
I appreciate the context that you have shared with us as that is very helpful! I can certainly see the benefit of having the Save cart option on the Shopify POS application. I am going to provide this as a suggestion to our developers and bring this to their attention. We appreciate the feedback that you have provided us as this is how we can make a better point of sale application for all merchants on Shopify.
Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your reply. As this change is causing issues, I am sure I speak for many members; 'How long will the restoration of Save to Cart on our POS take?'
In the meantime we lose customers and revenue.
Hey @Katherinej.
Thanks for the quick response.
That is a great question! I would not be able to provide an exact time frame to when this will be added or changed. With that being said, I have provided this thread to our developers to have a further look into this. We appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention.
Let me know what you think.

Is there any update on this issue? I have a class today, and the logistics are proving difficult(impossible and a poor customer experience). We need a resolution soon! If not I will be looking to alternative service provider.
i don't think they have any intention of every bringing back a FUNCTION or FEATURE that customer paid for, used and enjoyed, and are now demanding to have returned. This FEATURE REDUCTION practice has a name, but i can't think of it atm. Suffice to say, we will likely never see these features, like PRICE OVERRIDE and SAVE CART, ever again, even though, we paid for them and were using them to full effect in our businesses.
Bait and switch.
According to Shopify Help- it’s resolved. You just have drafts from now on, while they still advertise ‘save cart’ as an option (check for yourself).
Who is instituting these changes without even informing support staff at Shopify? Programmers are programmers- not business owners on the floor with customers and staff. In my small business, I spent months setting up Shopify and training staff. I had a back up system for months during the transition, so any issues could be resolved in the moment- fixes could be looked at and dealt with later. We had meetings about how it would all work, and what to do. Shopify wasn’t my only credit card processor, for example. I also kept paper records (carbon copy sales sheets) as a double check. Now, I need to start that again because you can not be relied upon.
I keep having problems with my sales tax- because at POS Shopify has decided to base sales tax on counties within my state- no. POS is at point of sale… your billing address doesn’t matter. You don’t not get charged local sales tax because your billing address is different when it is being picked up in store- how does a company like Shopify not know this?
Programmers are not gods- what might seem clever can actually be illegal. Like advertising- to this day- a feature on POS that You Don’t Provide. I would think Shopify had had enough with the SEC to contain their BS. Right now, ‘Save Cart’ is advertised as a feature of POS Pro- which I pay for. Draft Orders are not the same. I have Draft Orders through my admin site. I could ‘send’ a save cart order and create a draft order- now, I no longer have that option.
Shopify is billing me for features that no longer exist, and pretending they do. That is fraud. I have the screenshots. As a shareholder , I am double fucked- because of incompetence for no reason.
where is the management at Shopify? Driving race cars? I admire Tobi- but come to my tiny store that pays your company, and see how it works now. You are selling a product- Shopify. For me, it was a way to integrate online (and hopefully grow online) with a strong retail business. I sold this idea. I spent my own money buying the accessories- because I thought they would do what we needed. We lost the Instagram, Facebook, Etsy, easy interface- but stuck with it.
I am very disappointed. Back to Square?
Why take away the Save Cart function? If developers want to have Saving a Draft be a thing, fine. It doesn’t serve the same purpose, however, nor is it an improvement. Can the two exist together, and let shop owners decide which one serves them better?
We host after hour parties where we’ll have 20 people shopping, and in order to not have a complete cluster at the end of the night, we like to start - and save- carts. Now, we aren’t able to continue to edit carts. I can’t express to you how much I hate this change. And the fact that nobody seems to care about this real feedback you’re getting has me seriously considering switching selling platforms.
Hi Coco- Shopify seems to be shutting down complaints about this issue. My name is Lorie. You can reach me at JasperKaneDesigns.com
Shopify support is also annoyed and upset. If you look around- they didn’t know it was happening, and it is still advertised as a feature of PIS PRO
We need to ask again. Shopify please bring back the SAVE TO CART function. It is causing shop floor issues that you cannot begin to comprehend in retail situations. Customer experience has been decimated with frustrated purchasers at the end of what should be a wonderful day. At least offer us assurance this is an issue that will be resolved.
I have previously asked about accounts referring to account tax codes on POS. It would be great ro see this sorted too. POS IS TAXABLE regardleas of customer account status!
How bad are things for your user base when you remove a perfectly useful function without notice to your user base, and then devs end up creating apps to offer it BACK to your user base? Would you please please please bring back the save cart function already! Why not reach out to your most vocal users, who obviously work hard with your product every day, and find out their feedback? Get your devs to work with these stores - complaints are golden opportunities to really fix your product! Stop doing the double dip with apps and give us back the features we paid for. Thanks.
And just like that, the vultures have joined the thread peddling their wares and giving Shopify a reason to never bring back Save Cart again. Even though we were paying for it and using it at the time of its removal.
I have figured out some work-arounds. Since the shoddy engineers can't won't (same thing) fix this issue and the leadership won't listen to honest feedback, i've been forced to "h@ck" their sh!tty system.
1. You CAN edit the order AND re-save it!!! Once you go through numerous steps to retrieve the order you want, make the edits you want, (add items, edit amounts etc.) tap the "garbage can" in the upper right corner. When it asks you to save changes or cancel, SAVE them. it goes back into the draft folder for another time. you can do this as many times as you want. I know, it sucks, and there are so many steps involved that one can easily make a mistake, and you will. We have made plenty. But it is any option until the crapheads fix this issue.
2. I found it nearly impossible to delete one of these Drafts once it is started. 2 ways to get around this issue:
a. go to the admin page of your SHOPIFY acct and go to "orders" then drafts. find the one you want and delete it, or
b. delete all of the items in the cart and cash out a "ZERO BALANCE". i know, it messes up your average bill and sales total numbers but it is an option.
Sorry you are in the same sh!tty boat as the rest of us. Just remember to list as many things as possible to the Customer Service chat people as you can. I am up to 4 items that I continuously harp on to hem every single time i log into the chat:
1. PRICE OVERRIDE
2. SAVE ORDER
3. Customizable TILE SIZE on the iPAD app
4. MULTIPLE CURRENCY (we finally just dropped the second currency and stopped selling to alternate countries rather than have to purchase yet another app to fill the gap)
We are probably going to look for an alternate POS carrier if these issues aren't corrected and SHOPIFY doesn't start responding positively to the thousands of unhappy customers. It seems as though that is what they want.
This was the ENTIRE REASON I switched from the basic plan to the shopify plan and now its gone. And the crummy thing is, I had this feature all along and then one day it just got put into a higher priced plan. People should be grandfathered into these options fo if they are going to start charging for them after they've been part of the existing plan for years.
Hi Sucralose,
I understand the frustration of Shopify removing the "Save cart" function without giving notice and forcing us to move to draft orders.
To bring back the "Save cart" functionality, I have developed an app for Shopify POS recently, which you can utilize back the "Save cart" and "View saved carts" tiles like previously. (I understand the app subscription is an added expense to your store, I try keep it as low as I can to maintain the app's server expenses)
The app name is Yagi POS Cart Helper (https://apps.shopify.com/yagi-pos-cart-helper ), the app comes with a 14 days free trial which you can give it a try. (I am happy to extend it if you need more time, or let me know if you are testing it on a development store)
After installing the app, you can then add the "Save Cart" and "View Saved Cart" tiles in your Shopify POS, and you can save cart and view cart easily as before. The saved cart is also viewable by another POS device, as long as they share the same location.
Hope this can help!
Regards,
Axel Kee (developer of the Yagi POS Cart Helper app)
Came here to spread the good word -- we've just downloaded the Yagi POS Cart Helper app today (the app developer posted farther down but posting on the main thread for hopefully more visibility). It allows you to add "save cart" and "view cart" titles to the POS home screen. They function just as we need (you don't need to add a customer name and info, and if you add discount codes, it'll retain them upon retrieval). It was very easy to install and set up the tiles on our POS home screen. When we had an issue with the carts saving across all locations instead of the location of that iPad, I emailed the developer Axel and he fixed it right away. It's been working exactly as we need! It's a 14-day free trial then $5 a month after that. Also has a check gift card balance function (haven't had opportunity to test that yet but am hopeful). Highly recommend!!
