Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Curious why the "Save Cart" functionality has been sunsetted on the POS and now we only have the option for draft orders. We have a high traffic shop where people drop things on the counter while they shop. The save cart functionality would let us add to the cart as they go, but if another customer wanted to check out, we could quickly save the cart and take care of the next customer.
Now we've added about 4 or 5 clicks and a heavier lift in the speed of how quickly we can help customers. The draft order thing has it's functionality too, but why not just have both?
Really disappointing when updates continuously only yield downgrades to the service.
Hi there, @brockpw and @dreamysea! Thank you for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community with your feedback here about the recent changes to POS and the 'Save Cart' feature. My name is Imogen. It's nice to meet you!
To be clear, the 'Save Cart' feature still exists, it's just been removed from the 'POS Lite' Plan, and has been added to the 'POS Pro' plan as an exclusive functionality. In order to provide a more streamlined and efficient service, our Teams have decided to migrate the 'Send Cart' and 'Save Cart' feature onto the DraftOrders API. This is part of our ongoing efforts to improve pre-checkout workflows.
We do know that this adjustment is a large change in workflow for users who have been using this feature via 'POS Lite', so I'm happy to take your feedback around the adjustment of this feature to our POS Team directly so they can be made aware.
Though I can't promise what the outcome will be of me sharing this feedback with the Team, you can trust that it's being seen by the appropriate folks internally. Thanks again for your feedback!

Ahhh. So I am clear and want to make sure anyone who reads through this is as well. You took one of the most used quality of life features away from the Lite version and are only allowing it on the "pro" version now correct?
Hey Imogen. We actually pay and use the pro account. The Save Cart functionality is no longer there. It's now "save draft". Which adds 3-5 additional steps which kind of goes against the idea of a quick save cart feature which exists to promptly provide awesome customer service to those that need to check out. Now I have to gather customer information. Seek orders from the draft screen etc. So I want to hear WHY the decision was made when it decreases our speed of service to customers in a retail setting?
Oh my, then it's even worse. You can't even pay for that feature in Plus? Time to shop for a new system. I'm sick of Shopify's lack of real support after such a huge INVESTMENT. Investment should yield rewards and being taken care of as a customer, not continuously being hung out to dry.
Draft orders has no benefit or increased functionality at pre-checkout on the front end of the POS system - shocking that you could pay $299/month for a service and not be able to help your customers quickly. This was something simple and already in place and it's also part of what we were paying for! I think it's extremely unfair to pull this feature without notice. This is just a grab to get an additional $89/month on top of what we already pay.
Can this please be answered more clearly? You removed this from POS Lite. Ok, I have come to terms with that and now paid the $89/month for POS Pro and this feature is absolutely not there!!! The Save As Draft feature is useless. How can we get the Save as Cart back?
I am really curious what your PM's think you have streamlined here.
Do not say the feature is part of POS Pro when it is not, or point to how we get it back
Hi there, @markphip and @brockpw. Thanks for following up on the thread here!
@brockpw - You should be able to use both the 'Save Cart' and 'Send Cart' functionality if you're using POS Pro. If you believe that this feature isn't working for you as intended, or if you believe that you don't have access to this feature while on the POS Pro Plan, please use the 'Support' Tab within your POS App so our Retail Team can investigate and look into this for you.
@markphip - This change was made as a part of the process of moving features into being part of the 'DraftOrders API', which is part of our plan to help improve pre-checkout workflows for users. Folks using 'POS Lite' can use the 'Draft Order' functionality as a replacement for the removed 'Save Cart' functionality, or you can consider upgrading to POS Pro to access the 'Save Cart' and 'Send Cart' features that you are familiar with.
As mentioned previously, I've gone ahead and created a feedback submission where I've linked this thread and passed along the feedback you've shared with our Point of Sales Team. Feedback helps us evaluate changes we make to products, so we appreciate you taking the time to passionately let us know about your concerns around this change.

henticHi again, @markphip. The directions you need to follow for this functionality are outlined in this document here from our Help Center. If the steps outlined in this document do not allow you to use 'Save Cart' functionality, then please reach out to our Retail Support Team using the 'Support' Tab in the POS App so they can get you and your business authenticated, and look into this for you in greater detail.

Thanks again for the follow up, @markphip. As I'm not a member of the Retail Support Team, I cannot advise you on what the long-term goals of this change are, beyond what I've already shared with you previously regarding this change being part of the 'DraftOrders API' adjustments our Team is making to improve specific pre-checkout workflows.
I definitely recommend that you take advantage of the 'Support' Tab within your POS App to connect with our Retail Team directly with your questions and feedback, as they may have some additional information and context that they can share with you once authenticated.

Here are your current docs for this feature: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/shopify-pos/order-management/save-retrieve-order
It describes exactly what we are seeing which is terrible and not usable. All we can do is save as draft. The saved drafts do not work the way saved carts did and really are not usable for managing a busy in person business
THERE IS NO SAVE CART FEATURE. Please update your answer.
Save cart has been REMOVED.
Draft orders are a poorly coded, poorly implements and difficult to use system, that take way more steps than 'save card'; and draft orders do not "help improve pre-checkout workflows for users" as is evidenced by the huge outcry from your user base about this painful change. You can spit out the company answer all you want, but users will not buy it, because we are in the stores using this system every day.
imogen, please correct your mis-statements. The "SAVE CAZRT" feature cannot be accessed by the Pro Version either.
PLease stop misleading people to purchase the Pro version. They will not have access to SAVE CART or PRICE OVERRIDE!!!!!!!!!
Hi there. Could you please explain to me why I am now having inventory problems as a result of using the draft order, and then sending to POS to pay? If I have reserved an item, and then send to POS to pay, it looks as if I have sold the item twice - one stays in the 'unavailable' column when I pull up the adjustment history, and one goes to committed. Therefore, if I only had one on hand in the first place - my available inventory is now -1, which is wrong.
Hey, @Woolfloss.
Thank you for joining the thread.
If you're sending an order to POS for payment, then you wouldn't need to reserve the item. When you reserve an item, the item is moved into the Unavailable inventory so that it can't be purchased by another customer. However, since you've also sold one unit through POS, then that creates a negative inventory. If you'd like to learn more, then we've got a guide on that here: Reserve items.
That being said, if you've set a timer on the reserved product, then it should correct the negative inventory once the timer expires. However, if you didn't set a timer on the product being reserved, then you can move it out of the Unavailable inventory by managing inventory quantities.
If you have any other questions on this topic, then don't hesitate to let us know.

the pro version has lost the SAVE CART function as well. We were paying for a feature, and now that feature is gone. it was replaced by a terrible feature which makes our lived more difficult but we did not see a compensatory decrease in our monthly bill. I feel like there is a class-action lawsuit creeping our way. Some "bait & switch" or something it that ilk?
THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!! The "Save Cart" function is NOT available in the Pro plan. I have the pro plan and have been struggling with CS to get it back, to no avail.
Imogen, you are either lying or mistaken or being mislead. This function needs to be brought back immediately.
From the careers page at Shopify:
This corporate culture is encouraging devs to cause chaos, instead of a stable operating system that works for users in the real world. Understand the culture and it is easier to accept that this system will continue to be painful and difficult to use in a real world application and unstable.
(I think it's hilarious that I can't copy and paste the swear words THEY have posted all over their own careers page, here into the forums LOL)
Hi Brockpw,
I understand the frustration of Shopify removing the "Save cart" function without giving notice and forcing us to move to draft orders, which introduces inconvenience as you mentioned.
To bring back the "Save cart" functionality, I have developed an app for Shopify POS recently, which you can utilize back the "Save cart" and "View saved carts" tiles like previously. (I understand the app subscription is an added expense to your store, I try keep it as low as I can to maintain the app's server expenses)
The app name is Yagi POS Cart Helper (https://apps.shopify.com/yagi-pos-cart-helper ), the app comes with a 14 days free trial which you can give it a try. (I am happy to extend it if you need more time, or let me know if you are testing it on a development store)
After installing the app, you can then add the "Save Cart" and "View Saved Cart" tiles in your Shopify POS, and you can save cart and view cart easily as before. The saved cart is also viewable by another POS device, as long as they share the same location.
Here's a demo video on how it works:
Hope this can help!
Regards,
Axel Kee (developer of the Yagi POS Cart Helper app)
(Sorry in advance for the spam if people have seen me post this on the other save cart threads, just cross-posting in the interest of maximal visibility for other frustrated vendors). I wanted to signal boost a third party app that brings back Save Cart! We've just downloaded the Yagi POS Cart Helper app today. It allows you to add "save cart" and "view cart" titles to the POS home screen, and they function just as we need (you don't need to add a customer name and info, and if you add discount codes, it'll retain them upon retrieval). It was very easy to install and set up the tiles on our POS home screen. When we had an issue with the carts saving across all locations instead of the location of that iPad, I emailed the developer Axel and he fixed it right away. It's been working exactly as we need! It's a 14-day free trial then $5 a month after that. Also has a check gift card balance function (haven't had opportunity to test that yet but am hopeful). Highly recommend!!
