Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Shopify appears to be discontinuing that hardware at the end of 2023, and offering a credit towards the Wisepad 3 reader or POS Go device. This would be okay if my hospitality store didn't use the Shopify POS tip function, where we rotate the tablet to the customer, etc. After speaking with support, there are no integrated readers anymore which support tipping natively.
Does anyone have experience with tipping through third party readers? Eg. If using a Moneris reader, after inputting the total into the device, can the tip function come directly through the reader? Will that show up in reports though?
Thank you
Sorry, I have no experience with third party tap and chip readers.
My thoughts are that I will use the next 5 months to switch over to another service provider entirely. I'm furious that I just purchased 2 tap and chip readers and a dock only to find out three months later that they will all soon be unsupported.
Thanks for the reply and I agree, likely a platform switch here too. Sorry to hear you just got those devices 3 months ago. It would be a little less of a hassle if their 1 to 1 replacement, Wisepad 3, offered the same features as the Tap & Chip but it feels like a step backwards. 😞
Support just updated me and said both the Wisepad 3 and Shopify Go hardware do support tips through shopify POS. I guess I won't be platform switching with that reassurance. They should be updating the public tip supported hardware documentation soon.
