Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
We're an ecomm company but we're taking over a brick and mortar which already has a Shopify POS system. How should we handle integrating our own account with the stores current? Should we cancel the store's current account and simply setup our own POS account for brick and morter? what about the shopify hardware the store already has? (cardreader, etc.).
Thanks!
Hi, @LIVOutdoor.
Welcome to the Shopify Community! I hope your day is going well. Those are some great questions. The most important bit of information I will need to know, is if the brick and mortar is planning on keeping their Shopify account.
The reason why this is important, is the Shopify POS will be connected via their online Shopify Admin. Additionally, it will be connected to their Shopify Payments payment gateway.
The easiest way for this to transition would be for the previous owners to completely transfer ownership of their Shopify account to you. During this process they would need to reach out to our team to cancel their Shopify Payments account. Then, once you take over ownership, you can set up your own Shopify Payments account within the admin.
If the above works, you would also continue to use the Shopify POS hardware without a problem, as you now are the admin of the Shopify account. To do this, you would simply need to make sure the previous owner deletes the connection from their device. You would then need to download the Shopify POS app to your devices, and connect from there.
That being said, the warranty does not transfer from the previous account owner, to yourself. The person who purchased the hardware is the only individual who the warranty is associated with.
If, however, the owner of the store wants to continue to use their Shopify account for other locations, or the online sales, you will need to create your own Shopify account, and connect the POS to your new account.
