Tap and Chip reader for Canada

Is there any news of Shopify progressing on a tap and chip reader with Android capabilities in Canada?? I am so tired of having to use square to accept payment at markets, festivals, etc., and I am certainly not interested in purchasing apple products just to accept payments.

Shopify does offer a tap and chip reader that works with Android devices in Canada. It's called the Shopify Tap and Chip Reader, and it allows merchants to accept tap, chip, and swipe payments using an Android phone or tablet.

The reader connects to the device via Bluetooth, and it is compatible with most Android devices running version 5.0 or higher.

Hi @SaaSEnthu this same reader shows that it is not compatible with Android and I also contacted shopify about this a year ago or more and they said there isn't one for Android in Canada.

@SaaSEnthu I have the same exact same issue.  I have been waiting for support to get back to me for 5 days now.  Poor customer support.  Support advisor mentioned nothing that this doesn't work on an Android devices.  Reading through this community forum I found other users with the exact same issue.  There are lots of users that have android devices.  Please provide support for this.

There is no official announcement for support of Tap and Chip Card reader for Android in Canada. 

Card reader requirements

To connect the Tap & Chip Reader, you need to meet the following requirements:

• If your store is based in the United States, then you need to use an iOS or Android operating system.
• If your store is based in Canada, then you need to use an iOS operating system.
• Have Shopify Payments activated as your retail store's payment provider and test mode turned off.
• Have the Shopify POS app installed.

The Shopify POS app works with devices which meet the following requirements:

Device Description

iPhone	iPhone 7 or higher running iOS 13 or higher
iPad Air	Generation 2 or higher running iPadOS 13 or higher
iPad	Generation 5 or higher running iPadOS 13 or higher
iPad mini	Generation 4 or higher running iPadOS 13 or higher
iPad Pro	All iPad Pro models running iPadOS 13 or higher
Android	Android device running version 7.0 (Nougat) or higher
