Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
I have a customer that is a nonprofit, they are not charged taxes on the items they purchase. Their receipts need to explicitly show no taxes were charged or paid. Right now, the receipt just shows "subtotal" & "total" as being the same. I need to show zero amounts under my sales tax categories.
Is there a way to show zero taxes on their receipt?
Hi, @robobo!
Sophia here from Shopify. Welcome to the Shopify Community!
Are you creating draft orders for your tax exempt customer, or are they placing their own order through your online store's checkout? And when you visit the customer's profile in the Customers section of your admin, do you see the "Taxes are not collected" label?
The tax line won't automatically be included in your customers invoice or order confirmation email, but you can customize the notification templates to include the information you need. Our Notification variables reference document lists several line items you can use to display tax in these notification emails. Before editing any notification templates, I recommend saving a backup copy of the original just in case you need to revert back to it at any point.
If you need to send your customer a new receipt including the tax line for an existing order, you can use Shopify's free invoice generator or the Order Printer app to generate a PDF document that you can email to your customer. Both of these will include the line for tax. Please let me know if you have any questions.
