Unable to apply discount code

I received an email for a limited time offer for $50 discount on the Shopify Tap and Chip reader, and when I went to checkout to apply the code, I was given the error "X discount code isn't available to you right now".  Is there something I am missing for the code to work?

I was able to figure out what happened. Turns out checkout page was signed into my personal shop pay account and not my store shopify account! After switching the account logged in to the one for my store account, the code worked and I was able to order the card reader.
