What kind of barcode?

I'm looking at getting barcodes for our product range but not too sure what I need. I know that barcodes can be created through Shopify, however will these be readable for external use? 

We sell on our own ecommerce store, but we also sell to a variety of stockists. What barcode solution would be best for both purposes? Would I need to buy GTIN barcodes?

The good thing is you have options when it comes to printing out barcodes for your products. We actually have a guide here on our retail barcode labels app that includes information on how to get it setup, along with valuable information on the supported label types (sizes), and printer settings.
