Why am I being asked to order a card reader when I am only intending to sell online?

I am unable to finish my point of sale set up as I am being asked to order a card reader. Do I need a card reader if I am only selling online? Is this why my products aren't showing?

The Shopify Point of Sale (POS) system is used to process transactions and accept payments in person. It is a tool for retail businesses to help manage staff, inventory, and customers. Due to this, you do not require a POS system if your intention is to sell strictly online. To learn more about this, you can check out our Getting Started with Shopify Point of Sale document. 

 

To get started with selling online however, I recommend checking out our Starting An Online Store Guide for step-by-step instructions on how to build your online shop. This provides you with everything that you'll need in order to successfully open your storefront.

Yes, I will only be selling online. I can't seem to remove this required function - can you please assist?

  • Head over to our Help Center
  • Enter into the chat box Contact Support.
  • Log into your shop.
  • Select one of the available support options.
