Why can't I see customer names on POS payments via card or Apple Pay?

When customers pay via tapping their card and/or apple pay - why can't I see their name? It just shows up in my system as "Valued Customer" or "Visa Customer" vs. their name.

Can you confirm whether you're seeing this just when the customer is checking out/tapping their card, or are they still only listed as "Valued Customer" or "Visa Customer" on the orders/customers sections of your POS app? If you have any screenshots you can share, that would be super helpful. I will check our resources and get in touch with our retail team if necessary to see whether this is expected behavior.

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry for the delay. Yes - it still shows as "valued customer" or "visa customer" in the customer section of the POS app.

Hi Greta -

I have the same question. I can't figure out why some customer names appear and some don't. I would prefer to see the customer names on our POS so that I can watch orders and send out thank you's or other specialized emails to those customers we have a relationship with to personalize the experience more. I have attached a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

Thank you for your comments. I reached out to our retail specialists and they let me know that this is actually expected behavior, as the customer information is not pulled from the payment method automatically. If you'd like to have a customer's information associated with an order, you will need to manually attach the customer to the order. You can read more in our help document!

 

I understand how it would make order processing easier if the customer's information was automatically pulled from the payment method, so I have gone ahead and passed along your feedback to our development team. I can't guarantee that a feature like this will be implemented, but if it is, it will be included in the Shopify Changelog!
