Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Like clockwork, everytime I have a tent full of eager customers, the tap and chip and the POS app start to malfunction. The blue line at the top of the screen just pulsates. I've tried to disconnect/ connect/reconnect the WIFI. I have restarted the app. I have restarted the phone. I have updated the programme. All the while people with arms full of merch dumped product and walk out. Switching to Shopify has been the most time consuming, and costly mistake. What am I doing/not doing that my POS system has failed me and cost me revenue?
Honestly, since we've switched to Shopify, their card readers specifically the Tap and Chip are the biggest issues. They constantly disconnect and don't respond. I've literally had to train my entire staff on the troubleshooting procedures to get them working again. I can't figure out if it's the card reader itself or just poor integration with Shopify POS since the card readers seem to be a 2 step connection with our iPads. iOS will show the card reader connected no problem, but Shopify POS itself doesn't detect it connected. Most times force quitting Shopify POS will force Shopify to reconnect to it at start up, refreshing the connection but if that fails, we have to remove it from Shopify AND from iOS's bluetooth settings, and then do the repairing process all over again. I have a Swipe/Tap/Chip reader as well for prepaid and swipe only card and and we never have issues with it.
It's nerve racking to say the least. I had done all of those work arounds and it only worked once. I chatted with retail support. The agent did everything in his power to make the issue about me. I only need a card reader for the 4 months of street fairs, so I refuse to upgrade. Especially if the basic plan is a fail. Next year I will have a full time booth. I hope I can find a reliable pos solution by then.
I have been dealing with the same carder issues and also a weird error where the transaction is sitting in processing but no payment type has been selected. I would say this happens every 5th customer and we are a store front so it really slows things down. I have changed the reader and no improvement and reported the bug with no actual help but the basic troubleshoot.
Did anyone ever get a solution yet?
Yes, been having the exact same issue. No solution other than to close Shopify, forget the card reader from the iPad settings, then relaunch Shopify and reconnect the card reader from scratch.
and it happened last weekend at a convention...
