Why does my Tap & Chip card reader keep disconnecting?

Hello,

We have had this issue with our card reader occur twice in the last week.

When we go to collect payment it gives us the message "Wake Up Card Reader" and we are not able to reconnect the reader. We have tried unplugging, resetting, forgetting and other things. The blue lights come on, but it does not reconnect to the register. It is as though it is not charged any more, when in fact is has been sitting in the holder that is supposed to charge it.

The reader is Tap & Chip that lives in a holder which is constant plugged in.

How do we remedy this and have this not occur again?

There are a few things you can try to resolve this issue:

  1. Make sure that the card reader is properly seated in the charging cradle and that the charging cradle is plugged in and receiving power.

  2. Try unplugging the charging cradle and plugging it back in to reset it. If the card reader is still not connecting, try unplugging the charging cradle and plugging it into a different outlet to see if that resolves the issue.

  3. If the card reader is still not connecting, you may need to perform a manual reset on the card reader. To do this, you will need to hold down the power button on the card reader for about 10 seconds until the blue light begins to flash. Then release the power button and wait for the card reader to reset.

  4. If none of these steps resolve the issue, it is possible that there is a hardware issue with the card reader. In this case, you may need to contact the manufacturer for further assistance.

It is also a good idea to make sure that the card reader is not being used excessively or overheating, as this can cause issues with its performance. If you are using the card reader frequently, you may want to consider giving it a break every now and then to allow it to cool down.

I encountered the same issue and I ended up using the pin hole to reset. I thought the process should be easy, but it is much harder than I expected.

I cannot believe the overheating issue. I really hope it is not the case.
