Re: Discount Code in POS app not working

Why is my POS app discount code not working?

How do the discount codes in the Shopify POS app work? I was hoping I could create a discount code on our website and I would also be able to apply it during in person check outs. But when I go to enter the discount code in the POS app it just says "Invalid discount code". The code works fine in the online store. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? 😣

Did you click the Point of Sale checkbox when you created your discount code? You can find it on the righthand side under "Sales channels", seen in the screen clipping below.

All discount codes are automatically available for online store purchases, but if you want to make it available for other sales channels you need to activate them.

It would be great to ever have this addressed.
Despite knowing this is an issue with other stores as well, and is NOT just us/user error, I have tried everything I can possibly think of to troubleshoot the issue over the last few years, and continue to come back and try again every few weeks just to see.
Despite Shopify advertising that it's a feature, it simply doesn't work. We have B3G1 and B1G1 coupon codes that our customers are supposed to be able to use online or instore. They only work online.
We have to manually enter discounts to the items themselves as a result, instore.

Automatic discounts work, but we need discount/coupon codes to work.

Hi there, @GrumpyBob.

Thanks for contributing to the thread!

I understand you'd like to have discount/coupon codes be available on Shopify POS. At this time Buy X Get Y discounts are not available on POS, unless they are the automatic Buy X Get Y discount. That being said, they are available only to merchants on the POS Pro plan. I'll be sure to go ahead and submit your feedback to our product development team for review.

In the meantime, I'd like to suggest some third-party app options from the Shopify App Store that are compatible with Shopify POS.

App Options:

I hope this helps!

We have POS Pro, and pay a lot for it.
It was originally advertised as a POS feature, but never worked. I do see the sub note now added on one help page that it is an online only feature.
It is still an option to apply it to the POS channel, that we can click, when setting up a Buy X Get Y coupon code. It's disrespectful of our time to have option buttons that don't work or do anything.

If BOGO discounts aren't allowed at POS, then why is the option to choose POS available when setting up a BOGO promo?

That’s not what the Shopify help page says. Can you provide any more info or links?

I rescind my previous post since I see now that your post was made just a few days before these discounts became available on POS.
Which makes me wonder once again why it isn’t working?

Update from support: Buy X Get Y discounts (automatic and codes) were recently made POS Pro exclusive features. Previously only automatic BXGY discounts were Pro-exclusive. Sounds like this change was very recent and the support person didn't even know about it until they researched the issue. This explains why even the support article is incorrect, so how could merchants have known about this change?
