Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Now that Shopify is rolling out Shopify Tax to their POS product, you might run into an issue where your POS terminals stop charging taxes. The fix is simple, but unfortunately, no warning. If you have been selling products on the POS only, you might have missed checking the "This is a physical product" checkbox within the "Shipping" section of the product creation page. Though it does not say so on the page, by unchecking this box, taxes will be turned off for this product even if you have the "Charge tax on this product" checkbox marked.
The reasoning is that if you uncheck the physical product box, Shopify treats the item as a digital product and, therefore, assumes no taxes should be applied.
To avoid this issue, check both boxes to collect taxes.
