Retail hardware, software, and Shopify Point of Sale
Hi all,
Like to discuss about PRO and CON for upgrade to Shopify POS Pro.
Feel free to comment below XD
Who needs a good laugh? I just got another message from shoify customer "service"
"I would first like to thank you for taking the time to provide the feedback about our POS Pro plan and we do take this feedback seriously as it allows us to consider changes when considering future developments to our POS product. Transparency and trust with our merchants is very important to us, I've passed this info onto our developers to let them know how you feel."
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Transparency and TRUST! hahahaha oh that is too funny. This company is such a joke. TRUST. HA! I always trust people who try to over charge me for shitty products that dont deliver. What kind of scam is this?
Thank you, @Ben1992.
Your store has been added to the feature request.

We have reported multiple issues with the new POS and frankly feel ignored. The stock response from Shopify is always..."there is an app for that"
NO Shopify, that is not a solution.
Please add all these issues:
Our shop is www.redstickspice.com
Hey, @Red_Stick_Spice!
I'm sorry to hear you've had so much difficulty.
I can see Miles has already addressed the issues on your other post and/or raised them as individual feature requests since they are all different to the complaints on this thread regarding features not being available on POS Lite that were previously available on POS Classic. It looks like Miles has it in hand so I will leave it with him.

So since a lot of countries go in lockdown again, the Netherlands will be in complete lockdown until the 19th of januari, I really hate it wven more to pay 90$ for the pro version I cant use now.
What are you going to do about this problem Shopify? Most people are not happy, there are a lot of basic options not available even in the pro version and most businesses are struggling.... Whats your goal? Making customers happy and satisfied or make them leave?
I already planned a demo for another POS supplier because I just need some very basic options that you can't provide. Mind you that I rather stay if everything would work the way we all want and if the costs would be lower!
TIME TO WAKE UP!!

We’ll add our voice to the general comments here.
Again, small business and the removal of ‘Save Cart’ and Exchanges from ‘free’ POS causes un-necessary headaches.
For $89 Pro, I'm still waiting to be able to do Manual Returns when an (item) gift is returned, and you cannot attach it to an order!
This is as elementary as it gets. Simple returns. Look up an item and select to return it, Gift card or cash.
Other developers understood this, in the 70's.
Even cars had a reverse without a surcharge.
Hey, @Roman89!
Can you please explain further why you can't use Pro?
Please be specific, which basic options do you need that are not available on Pro?
Once I have this information, I'll be happy to feed it back for you.
Thank you!

oh and I forgot it's also important that we're able to refund in the way we want. If some one payed by card and wants cash back because someone else bought it for example this should be possible. It's all very customer unfriendly
@Ariaplease let me know when all these points are being solved? We are the ones paying and need this?! Just to tell us constantly that's you add it to the wanted feature list makes not a lot of sense if no one will work on the list...
Aria...if there is some work being done on any of the concerns raised by us, could it be communicated?
If it already is, please let us know where we can go to keep informed. I know there is a change log where we
can read about what has already changed. Is there an 'in progress' log so we can see what is in the works?
The lack of response to concerns on this thread suggests that no updates are being looked at on the POS PRO?
Is this a correct assumption?
An update would be greatly appreciated.
Rivertown...I'm not encouraged about the lack of communication. We are beginning our search for a new POS and also
another platform entirely.
I was actually just told on the phone to take it or leave it. The support rep said that is their POS now so if I dont like it I can find another company to use that has one I like. I have tried every way possible to get some sort of acknowledgement that change needs to come and have failed. It's clear that the money is the main focus. Having to switch really sucks to be honest. I have years invested in my Shopify site. What sucks more is how terribly handled this whole thing was. I really used to like shopify a lot. Like would rave about it to any business owner who asked me who I used for systems. I never had a single complaint until the New Pos was forced on my business. Now I am sure there are a few thousand support logs with my name on it, just trying to get someone to be straight with me. Perhaps a few too many, but a no point did I ever feel heard or valued by anyone.
So far it looks like squarespace is who I am going with. I have begun trying to get the website converted over and all that. Unfortunately there is not a ton of helpful info out there so it is likely to take me longer than expected.
I am actually in shock that a support team member basically told me to stop calling and sending in reports and to just cancel my shopify account. Almost as shocked as I am that I was forced to switch POS systems with no other options.
I am also looking into another POS. I have been with Shopify since May. Nothing but problems. 99% brick and mortar business.
Looking at Lightspeed. Reluctant to go with Square for two reasons. Endless reports that they will lock your account if they think fraud. Once locked you have no way to do business. Also a lack of customer service. The second is that it is owned by Jack Dorsey who owns Twitter.
Lightspeed has given me a free account to try out for 60 days. Do to the Holidays my time has been limited.
I would have to purchase new scanners, readers and printers. But in the last 3 days I have spent 9 hours on the phone and trouble shooting the Shopify system that has been malfunctioning. Small price to pay if the system works.
@Aria Surprise surprise, ALL feedback has been ignored and no changes have been made. This horrible system was such a huge headache during our busiest month ever. I had 10 other business owners this month ask me what POS system I used and recommended. It felt so good to tell them to stay far away from shopify and your crooked schemes. They were shocked that you were treating loyal customers like you. Some even laughed when i showed them the system, all of its many flaws, and then told they YOU CHARGE $90 PER LOCATION FOR THIS TRASH!
Hi Aria,
We would like to add our store into the list as well. elias-green.myshopify.com
The save to cart feature is the most important to us and we feel cheated having to pay for it now along with the other classic POS features removed in the All-New-POS.
Thank you to all of you for your feedback. It has all been added to our feature request log which is read by our developers and used to help determine future changes.
Since we can't communicate how feedback is being handled in real-time, I am now going to close this thread to avoid misunderstanding. You can view new product launches and changes in our Changelog.
Thank you!

This is disturbing that support told you that. I believe many of us are just getting through the holidays....then
on to choose a new host/POS. First order of business for the new year
Are you listening Shopify?
I have no faith that this company will do anything to change.
Does anyone have any other platforms they would recommend?
Here's another thread started for everyone to share how this new update sucks and why we will be leaving
We knew some of the new bells & whistles of the PRO version would go away on 11/1, however, totally surprised to see many day-to-day
business functions used to totally go away i.e. save cart, exchanges, etc. We, like most small businesses, have been so overwhelmed with staying alive the last 8 months, we did not have the time to research the impact this would have on us. Very disappointing.
It is not often that functionality is taken away in new versions of software. We expected POS Lite to keep at least the business functions it had before. We can go to admin to check reports, daily sales amts, etc. but the day to day business functions are so necessary.
We cannot operate efficiently as a "brick & mortar/online" business under POS Lite. We cannot afford POS PRO.
With the upcoming holiday season... we need your help on this.
I'd also like to say how disappointed we are to see basic business functions removed. We can't operate without the Save Cart functionality so we either pay Shopify (which feels like a form of extortion as they know we need it) or we look elsewhere and go through the pain of migration.
If this is a sign of how customers are treated by Shopify then maybe we should jump ship now rather than continue to be bullied into paying even more in the future. Either way, this isn't a decision I have the capacity to make right now so I'm really not happy!!
If anyone has some alternative POS solutions - please share.
Obviously must perfectly sync to shopify inventory and include basic functions (exchanges - more than one time (which is a long-standing shopify issue), save cart etc etc.
We dropped VEND earlier this year and migrated all the data back to shopify when POS looked like it was better than it used to be (and when they included multi-store options which is why we went with VEND in the first place). But might have to look at them again now.
We are in the middle of a digital re-design and was planning this in Shopify. Now looking at options for Magento as don't like being held to ransom when we've been with the platform for so long. Magento would give us ownership instead of continuous upward spiralling subscription costs.
If any good Shopify POS alternatives out there - please shout. We'll look at those as a quick-fix solution.
Thanks
You are correct on that score.
Here in the UK, Square has started a national TV campaign for their webstores and pos.
Their pos app has as many, if not more functions than pro and is UK £49 (approx $63)
But it gets better. On shopify i have to pay $79 per month for my website package so I can use my store hardware with the pos app. While otherwise the $29 per month webstore would do all I need if it wasnt for the pos.
BUT with square i can get this website for just £22 per month (approx $28) and if i pay for the year upfront it costs £228 (approx $269) against shopify charges for a year of $948
So in a year i will save £288 (aprox $269) on the better pos app.
A further £504 (approx $655) because i dont need to have the upgraded website to use the pos app
A Total Saving of £732 (approx $924) per annum - for EXACT same as i currently get with Shopify
And even if i wanted a website with all the bells and whistles i could get BigCommerce for just £29.95 per month and this integrates with the Square POS app.
I will need to change my barcode scanner and a couple of bits of hardware - cost to me of about another £150 - but that is a one of payment to ensure compatibility.
And - as i have now been forced to close for the month because of Government restrictions - i also have the time to make the changes.
Now let them justify their rip off price hike or justify the downgrade of the free version. If they had launched pro at a sensible price we may have considered staying.
Interesting. Very interesting.
Does Square POS sync seamlessly with Shopify (inventory, sales, customers, gift cards etc etc) or do you need an inventory app in the middle?
I'm fed up of migrating and being held ransom, but just need to get this sorted now. Shopify has always been average with POS. Even POS Pro can't handle someone exchanging more than once (laughable).
I assume square also syncs in the same way with Magento (as that is an option we are looking at now - to move everything over as we are rebuilding everything and Magento gives ownership).
Thanks for comments here - food for thought.
I dont know much about Magento - but i have just found the following on the Square website
The Square extension for Magento allows merchants to power online payments on their Magento online store, as well as push transactions made on the Square POS into Magento. Transactions, refunds, customer data, product catalog info, and inventory quantities sync between Square and Magento systems.
Hope that helps.
I just looked into Square and was really impressed! For $72 a month I can get EVERYTHING I’m paying $158 a month for now! Will definitely be switching if Shopify doesn’t stop being greedy.
hi everyone following this thread. just noticed a pop-up on my POS today that asked for comments on the system. Maybe shopify is listening! Make sure you submit your feedback through that or let your staff know to put a comment there.
