AWS or GCP?

About to start building a Shopify App (or two).  Will involve a decent sized backend (logic, DB, etc..).  Normally I'd run it at AWS, where I have more familiarity with the services.  However my understanding is that Shopify is mostly hosted at GCP, so I'm wondering if it would be advantageous to host my stuff at GCP to minimize latency and maximize bw/throughput for API calls.  

Are there any general recommendations or performance test results, etc... that might offer some insight?
