Change the price of an item in the cart?

Hi

I'm new to shopify and just getting started with the API.

I see it is it possible to change the price of a product, but is it possible to change the price of a product in an order (for example if specific conditions are met)?

If so it would be awesome if someone could point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Asa

Anyone? I had a look through the available API again but I still cant see a way to change the price of an item in the cart? Is it possible?

Is it possible?

No. It makes sense for it to be that way - you can imagine how a sneaky retailer might take advantage of such a loophole suddenly changing the price from $9 to $999 and hoping no one will notice. No doubt it's also a requirement for pci compliance.

Hi Jason

Thanks for your quick reply.

The reason I want to change the price of an item is to build a promotions/offers app for example (BOGOF) that reduces the price, not increases it.

I'm sure some logic could be built in to a modify cart API request to check if the price was an increase or decrease if it were to exist.

I worked for a an eCommerce company who used their own PCI compliant product which featured a promotions module, so I don't think PCI would be an issue.

Anyway, as this feature doesn't exist and likely won't anytime soon, is there an alternative way to achieve what I'm trying to do? Maybe auto apply a discount at the checkout without entering a code? I have client that has a requirement to offer x number of products in a collection for a fixed price.

I'm just getting started with Shopify but my first impression is that the API is extremely limited. How long has it been around? I could be a great product with some additional functionality.

Regards

Asa

Perhaps set quantity to 0, add a new differently priced item?

The AJAX API is limited, but the standard API is quite nice. It's important to not confuse the two as they are totally different beats. Check out the current discount apps in the store to give you some ideas of what's possible.

I see the from AJAX API that is possible to update the cart attributes. However I don't see a list of attributes that can be updated?

If it is possible to update the cart via the AJAX API, why cannot I see any reference to updating the cart in the standard API?

Perhaps set quantity to 0, add a new differently priced item?

Although this may work, creating a dynamic product on the fly based on an existing product is a hack. I'm going to look into it in the short term though. Thanks..
