Is there a way to notify administrative users that my app has something new they need to review?

Is there a way to show to an administrative user in the admin dashboard that my app has items that require their attention? Something like a red circle with a number in it would be the classic desired method, but anything at all would be great. Users of the app will be able to make submissions and the admins should be able to know that there are some that they need to see without actually opening the app itself.

Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this? Should I just set up a cron job and keep e-mailing them until they see it? What options do I have, here?

Hey Koviko what's your app called? I saw in your other post you were looking for a way to email the admins as well.
