Any experts on shopify/Pinterest integration?

I've installed the Pinterest app for shopify and run into an issue.  Some of my products on Pinterest display the secondary product images instead of the main image.  These same products auto-generate Pins for every product image on that product page (including "technical" information such as product dimensions etc).  After going back and forth with Pinterest business support for a week, they finally told me the issue is that I'm reusing images for multiple products, and I will need to "fix" my shopify feed to correct the issue.  The images causing the issue are instructional and greatly reduce customer questions and complaints, so removing them isn't an ideal solution. 

Shopify help said they don't support the Pinterest app.  They gave me an email address for help for the app, but no one answered my email.  Any suggestions here?  If I remove the app and add the Pinterest code to my store manually, is there any reason to believe it will solve the issue?  I'm not sure how the app feed works differently from the embedded tags...

Christine, were you ever able to resolve this issue? I'm also having this problem and I don't have any duplicate images, so that can't be the issue.
