App Blocks as Sections

What I am trying to figure out is if you can create an app block for Shopify 2.0 stores that can contain blocks within it. An example I would give is if you want to create a slider as an app block. Normally if I am creating this section in liquid I would create a "slide" as a block and let the merchant create as many slides as they want to. Now with app blocks, I would have to create the entire section as a block and create settings with the number of "slides" a user could add with no in-between.

This seems like a pretty big limitation. Is there no way around this?
