Are app credits automatically applied to recurring subscription charges?

Just a quick question: Does anyone know if app credits awarded to app users through the partner dashboard are automatically applied to that user's next recurring subscription charge?

Here is the info from Shopify, but I can't see specific mention of the credits being applied to app subscriptions:

For anyone who comes across this, I reached out to Shopify to check. Credits are applied to the general bill, so they aren't specifically applied to your app, but in a way they sort of are, as the overall bill will be reduced. 

Also, if you send credits to an app user, the value is taken out of your next payout.
