Hi all,

Based on the docs, i believe a development store can be assigned a domain name:

https://help.shopify.com/en/partners/dashboard/managing-stores/development-stores

My goal is to do app testing/debugging on a shop with a custom domain.  However when i try to log into that store from my partners dashboard, click Settings -> Domains, i get this modal message:

Upgrade your account

The operation could not be completed because of the following restrictions in your current plan:

Out of resources

As account holder you can change the plan at any time.

Is there a different way of assigning a domain to a development store?    Thanks

This is an accepted solution.

After talking with support, I was able to determine the issue.

So, when your store is in development mode, normally you can add a custom domain, the docs are correct.
But, that's only when your store has store transferred enabled.

What happened in our case is that we accidentally disabled the ability to transfer the store by install a draft app that we were developing. This, unfortunately, is irreversible.  We even contacted support and they were unable to do anything.

We ended up having to recreate the entire development store and were extra cautious to not install any draft apps. After we recreated the store, we were able to assign a custom domain as expected, even though the store was in development mode.

It's really frustrating, but hopefully this helps!

You are a life saver, I wasn't able to find that information anywhere on the shopify help page. Creating new store was the way to go
