Best way to manage multiple product designs?

I run a print-on-demand based Shopify stores. I have multiple designs that I offer on multiple products (e.g. prints, cards, mugs, coasters, etc.). Eventually, I could have as many as 200-300 different designs.

I am looking for a simple way to create a collection of "template" products, so that each time I make a new design available I can just create a new collection based on this "template". The product prices and descriptions don't change from design to design, although the images, titles and SKUs do. In addition, occasionally I might add a new product to the "template" and would need to publish it for ALL existing designs.

I can't see a reasonably-priced app that could do what I need (although open to ideas), so my thoughts are to either get a custom app developed ($$$) or use the built-in import tools (i.e. by having a "template" CSV containing all the products and placeholders for the text and images that need to change, then do a search and replace each time I have a new design and import it to the store.

Has anyone else had a similar need, and if so how did you solve it? Open to any other ideas too.

Hi

The CSV method would be the method you can use now as you would just export a product you wish to duplicate and then change the new elements.

We have a product data management platform that could be of assistance. Essentially we could develop a small automation that would duplicate a set of product or create a set based on a template and you could go through and edit everything either in bulk or one by one. Once happy you just publish it to your linked Shopify store. This removes the need for creating csv files and hosting images so they can be used during the import. You may want to assign a single design to multiple products in bulk so we could automate this as well.

If you would like to discuss it just send me an email to tom@channelup.io

Regards

Tom

For anyone interested, I built a Python script that does what I need today. It requires a bit of set up (create the template products and collection then export to CSV) and access to a server to host the images that Shopify will import, but it seems to work. I can now add a new design to my store in just a few minutes.

Hi all,

I think I have got a solution you might be looking for:

https://apps.shopify.com/mockupify

Here's how it works:

1) Upload multiple graphic designs
2) Create product templates

3) Mockupify automatically merges graphic designs with product templates and exports them to your Shopify store.

Let me know if you have any questions

Thanks. I did take a look at your product, but it doesn't do what I need and at $50/month it would not be worth it for me.

It sounds like I’m looking for something like this. Can you share what you have or do you have a link?  Any information would be helpful.  I have about 100 images mocked up. But those images can go onto multiple products.   Looking for a faster way to get product choices onto Shopify.
