Can the refund API move items to 'Return in Progress' section?

I have a query related to the return API. Actually, I am using the refund API, and it is creating a refund for the amount, but it is not moving the item to the 'Return in Progress' section. I want the item to be moved to the 'Return in Progress' section when a refund is created for that specific item. Do we have any other API for that, or do we need to use a different API?
