I just saw I'm eligible to link my shopify store with my youtube channel now (GREAT!) BUT, in order to do so means disconnecting my current google account, even though both were originally set up with the same email i.e. Main login email allow sme to swap between me and brand. However, in the google app within shopify I must link to my main email where the google merchant center and everything else is linked. IS there a way to add just the brand/channel so the youtube channel is linked without messing up all over our data and years of information work in the current merchant center?

Unfortunately not. It just allows me to link to the shopify google channel and only allows me to disconnect my gmail account to connect the brand account. This would allow me to display on youtube, but disconnects all googleAds, analytics, etc.
I recommend sending feedback to Google to allow normal connections. Because the current method is not suitable.
How is this still unresolved a full calendar year later? I've been going back and forth with Google support, including screen recordings etc. and still everyone seems to be at odds about this. Most responsible Brand Channel owners are using Brand Accounts to separate their personal accounts from the Brand so this must be extremely common use case scenario. This makes no sense to be an issue on a live app or software. There are 2 use cases for this app: Connect to your personal account and personal channel... or Connect to your brand account and brand channel. To say that 50%+ of the use cases are not viable on a 'non-beta' app, yet it was released to the public and advertised to work, is technically and professionally unacceptable. I highly recommend this be resolved within 2023. Otherwise I plan on making a full video case study on this convoluted and irresponsible 'partnership' that has costs countless people money who I am sure also chose Shopify over the less reputable options for Youtube Shopping AND proceeded to pay for basic or premium Shopify plans throughout the course of their own due diligence and troubleshooting without ever being able to see the benefits or have access to the primary functions of said paid plan. I think these people are either owed a Solution or a Refund. There is no third option.
Am experiencing the same thing. Have a Youtube channel and a Brand channel for Youtube. Am using the correct merchant account # but Shopify only showing my personal Youtube channel as an option to connect.
