Creating a custom sales channel to track gifting?

Hi, I'm not really sure which location would be best for this query, but my brand sells DTC on Shopify, as well as some other sales channels such as IG / FB and other third party apps.

We do a lot of influencer gifting as part of our marketing strategy. For ease of inventory and shipping, we run all of these gifts through Draft Orders which we then discount 100%. I would like to be able to run reports about just these gift orders, or exclude these orders from other reports. 

What is the best way to do this? Would if make sense to develop a simple app that could function as a custom sales channel and track it that way? This would only be used internally, and is really just so that we don't have to manually adjust inventory when a gift goes out or comes back, but also don't have these "discounts" mixed in with the discounts that we extend to paying customers.

In your case, it will show the orders for which were used gift cards or 100% discounts.

Hi Emile,

Discount codes and gift cards get messy because influencers dont want to enter them and pay for shipping.

If you use https://apps.shopify.com/creator-gift-link and send the influencer a gift link, then the order will show in your store as "Imported by Influencer Gift Form" so you can distinguish them from your other ones.
