App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Is there a way of increasing the upload limit of 50 files per product in the Shopify Digital Downloads app? We sell a library containing 100 unique digital files, which will easily fit within the total 5GB space limit, however the app will not allow me to upload more than 50 files to this product. As far as I can tell, this limit is undocumented in the help files. It simply says you may upload "multiple files" per product. Digging deeper into the AI support only reveals the 250 media file upload limit per product, which is obviously not the same as Digital Downloads' app restriction. I use a 3rd-party app to sell the library, but Shopify's limitation seems arbitrary, and it would be great if could be raised with a simple code setting.
We have used a zip file in the past, but our customers favor a "digital locker" approach where they can easily choose to download a small single file when needed rather than the entire collection and unzip. This is especially true of mobile delivery. The 50-file limit is not documented in the same manner as the 250 media file limit, so it seems a bit unwarranted to me to restrict this by total file count rather than total file size. I'm sure there has to be an upper limit for database admin purposes, but 50 seems random.
No, that setting does nothing. I suspect there's a line of code to limit the max number. What I don't know, is if that number is arbitrary based on page load speed, or if it actually must be limited due to database or display restrictions. I'm hoping it's the former.
