Do I need to resubmit the app?

I'm fairly new to Shopify app development. I have an app that I need to add additional behavior to. 

When you update your app for different customer type access and such: do we need to resubmit the app?

Do I just upgrade my app and keep the listing the same? Is there an approval process associated to updating an app?

If your app is listed in a Shopify app store. Then no need for to approval process required.
