Domains transfer question

Hey! I was wondering if someone know if it's possible to change a Shopify URL?
For example: Change netzerocompany.com to ecocollective.earth

  1. https://www.netzerocompany.com/
  2. https://www.ecocollective.earth/

Net Zero is a Shopify store and ecocollective.earth is hosted as a landing page on lightspeed but does not sell any physical products.

Recently Net Zero has been bought by the ecocollective.earth company and we want to reflect this change on the website!

They are both active websites and we want to keep netzero as the core domain but change the url to the ecocollective (make a landing page for the original ecocollective but the new face will be the Net Zero store)

My main concerns are:
 a. I want to change the net zero url to ecocollective

b. I want to keep the net zero histroy, SEO, data

c. I want the net zero to be the home page if people search netzerocompany.com but the url will automatically change to ecocollective.earth (the new url)

d. if people search for ecocollective.earth they will land on a special landing page within the net zero website that would explain to our customers about the change..

What would be your recommendation and what is the best way to do it? Does this require coding / app / is it a function that I can easily do in Shopify / lightspeed?

Hello @KimB95

Yes, it is possible to change a Shopify URL. To do this, you will need to add the new domain name to your Shopify account and then set it as the primary domain. You can do this by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Domains in your Shopify admin.
  2. Click Add domain.
  3. Enter the new domain name and click Add domain.
  4. Once the new domain name has been added, click Set as primary domain.

Once you have set the new domain name as the primary domain, all traffic to your Shopify store will be directed to the new domain name. However, you will still need to update your DNS records for the old domain name to point to the new domain name. You can do this by contacting your domain registrar.

To keep the Net Zero history, SEO, and data, you will need to use a redirect. A redirect is a way of sending traffic from one URL to another. In this case, you will need to create a redirect from netzerocompany.com to ecocollective.earth.

To create a redirect, you will need to use a redirect service. There are many different redirect services available, such as Redirection, 301 Redirects, and Redirect Checker.

Once you have chosen a redirect service, you will need to create a new redirect. In the redirect service, you will need to enter the following information:

  • Source URL: netzerocompany.com
  • Target URL: ecocollective.earth
  • Type of redirect: 301 redirect

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect. This means that any traffic that goes to netzerocompany.com will be permanently redirected to ecocollective.earth.

Once you have created the redirect, you will need to wait for it to take effect. This may take a few hours or even a few days.

To make sure that the redirect is working, you can use a tool like Google Search Console. In Google Search Console, you can enter the URL for netzerocompany.com and see if it is being redirected to ecocollective.earth.

If the redirect is working, then you will see a message that says "This URL is redirected."

Once the redirect is working, you will need to update your website's content to reflect the change in domain names. This includes updating the website's logo, header, footer, and any other content that references the old domain name.

You will also need to update your website's social media profiles to reflect the change in domain names. This includes updating your website's profile picture, cover photo, and any other content that references the old domain name.

Finally, you will need to update your website's email addresses to reflect the change in domain names. This includes updating your website's contact form, newsletter signup form, and any other form that collects email addresses.
