App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Hi there,
I have recently installed the Google App to use GA4. This actually worked for about a week. However the additional events like "begin_checkout" or "add_payment_info" are still being fired but suddenly stopped being reported. In debugging I can see they are being fired but the GA4 reports stay empty since over a week now. And I did not change anything technically since setting this up early march. Big problem for us because with UA tracking these events worked fine and we used them for conversion tracking and optimization. Now we cannot do this anymore.
Anybody else has or had this problem and solved it?
PS: I contacted Google Support they stopped replying, probably do not know why this is happening.
Hello @Max811,
Good day! Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $6Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.
It's possible that there could be a number of reasons why the additional events you mentioned are not being reported in your GA4 account. Here are a few things you can check to troubleshoot the issue.
1. Make sure the events are being sent correctly
Use the Realtime report in GA4 to check if the events are being sent and received correctly. If you can see the events being sent in the Realtime report, it's possible that there's an issue with the reporting or data processing in your GA4 account.
2. Check the event setup
Make sure that the event names and parameters are set up correctly in GA4. You can use the Event Tester tool in the GA4 Tag Assistant to check if the events are being set up correctly.
3. Check the data processing status
In the GA4 Data Streams settings, check the data processing status for your data stream. If there's a delay or issue with processing the data, this could be causing the events to not show up in your reports.
4. Check the data retention period
GA4 has a data retention period of 14 months by default. If the events you're looking for are older than this period, they may have been purged from your GA4 account.
5. Check for any filters or views
Make sure that you don't have any filters or views set up in GA4 that could be hiding the events you're looking for.
If none of these troubleshooting steps help, it may be worth reaching out to Google Support again to see if they can provide any further assistance.
Gina
Hi @flareAI thanks for your support.
Our problem is GA4 did work fine – then the reporting (only for these checkout events) stopped for once in a sudden. I can see they are fired in Tag Manager Preview mode (see screenshot). But they are not even showing up in Real Time Reports in GA4. Google already replied saying there is a problem with my tag setup. BUT I can't change anything about that – the tag is setup by Google App in Shopify. 🤣
Here's the reason why this is happening I believe.
I've been attempting to get Shopify to resolve this issue, to no avail.

Have you tried using https://apps.shopify.com/littledata which does this automatically and improves conversion tracking with server-side?
