Gift card with printed QR code

Hi there!

We are a gifting company. The customer (giver) buys a gift from our site, and it is shipped directly to the gift receipient. We also want the giver to be able to purchase a gift card/voucher, so that the receiver can cash in an amount to buy a gift of her/his own on our site. We are thinking something like this:

Gift card as a product, when selected we print a QR code from the order. The QR code is printed on paper and added to the gift. Once received the recipient can scan the QR code, register an account and receive the voucher amount on their balance. 

Another option is to print a unique discount code, which does not require the recipient to create an account, but can be punched in at checkout. 

In any case we need to have a voucher as a product, and a convenient and automated way of printing a code that goes in the box. 

Any suggestions to how this can be acheived?

I understand that you're looking for a way to use QR Codes as a way for customers to redeem gift cards. While there isn't a way to do that at the moment, I can see how this can be a useful feature for our merchants and I'd be happy to submit a feature request on your behalf. If Shopify moves forward with any changes to how gift cards can be redeemed, we'll be sure to announce them on our changelog and/or updates page. 

That being said, when a customer purchases a gift card with their "gift" order, the system will generate a unique barcode for the gift card - which you can print and include in the order. Then, this gift card can be redeemed by the recipient in the Online store without having to create an account. However, if the recipient is redeeming the gift card in-person, then you can scan the barcode using a 2D scanner with the Shopify POS. 

You can generate QR Codes that can direct customers to a specific product or checkout page using Shopcodes. However, while you can print these QR Codes to use as vouchers, this doesn't apply to redeeming gift cards.

Hi Tim,

I have a question. I am trying to make a qr code link to an opt-in page (or the create an account page for my shop), where the customer can opt-in to our mailing list, and in exchange they will receive a gift card to spend at our site, let's say $20. Is there a way to have a landing page with the opt-in form, where the customer clicks the submit button (I only want there to be one button on the page) and it will automatically generate a unique gift card for each customer?
