How to fix broken product sync between Google Merchant Centre and Shopify?

Hi guys and gals,

Earlier this year I had linked my Shopify store with my Google Merchant Centre.  The product feed was automatically set as "Content API" and as you probably know, Shopify handles all of this behind the scenes, so the user has very little involvement.

August 2021 comes around, and I got married over seas.  We were away for 2 weeks, and so I "switched the website off" by turning all of my advertising spend to £0 and password protecting my website so users couldn't make a purchase whilst I wasn't able to fulfil the order.

Once we get back from our Woliday (official word for wedding/holiday) I turned the password protection off and cranked the Google Ads up.  But the link between Shopify - Google seems to have broken.  Shopify tells me that there are 25 products that HAVE synced, and 250+ (I have around 330 products) that HAVEN'T synced.  This is even more strange as I have since removed the Content API feed from my Merchant Centre account, and started to use a Google Sheets upload feed.

Now to me, and my relatively small amount of self-taught knowledge, it seems that the API link between Shopify - Google has broken.  I've spoken to both Shopify and Google and both said it was likely an issue with the other...

Has anyone else had this issue and managed to resolve it?

Thank you in advance!

First, what I would like to share is password protecting your website, and if you were still submitting a data feed to Google Merchant Center, can cause account suspensions, if not already happened.

Go to Google Merchant Center > Products > Diagnostics > click on the account issues tab > check if you are suspended.

If not, great.

Now check if you products are active in Products > Diagnostics.

If yes, then you should be able to advertise.

Double check Google Merchant Center and Google Ads are still linked: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6159060?hl=en

If there are no products, then you need to re-setup your Shopping app, consider disconnecting and connecting again.

If you continue to struggle, best to contact Shopify support.

yip shopify dont seem to want to acknowledge this is happening. Have had it happen to at least 8 clients. No one can provide any support and don't want to seem to fix it. The google channel app just seems to stop sending information to Merchant centre.

Only way I have found to fix it is you need to go into the channel app and select all products and then edit. Then usually the first column (I think it's called custom product) is blank and you will need to change it to true or false depending. Otherwise usually changing one of the custom label fields seems to work.

otherwise download symprosis feed for google shopping and use the 21 day free trial. Then its pretty cheap after that.

The free app is indeed not great, however what you described is a different issue. When automatic updates are enabled in GMC, the free shopify app can not submit updated info.

By disabling this, it can. It's very bizarre, but I would not recommend anyone who is serious about advertising to use the free app.

Hi, TLC_Cookshop.
My name is Romchy. I'm from Shopify Feed-product support.

There are applications for example:  Feed product - Facebook Google, it has a plan in which it always keeps the connection online and is updated in an XML file. There is also a free plan in which it is renewed once every 48 hours. And in the free plan it works stably. On the Google Merchant Center side, you set up at what time it will be updated, the difference can be set for 15 minutes after updating the Feed product XML file, so that the fresh version is uploaded to the Google Merchant Center.

Here you will find a detailed description of connecting Google Merchant Center with examples:
