How can I enable customers to download files on my website?

I have installed an app called Digital Downloads-Filemonk. It is shown as an installed app in my Shopify Admin file but I am having trouble creating the download feature on my Shopify web page. What do I have to do to create a download button that will enable customers to download files from my Shopify website?

Thanks for your very helpful information. I am still not able to do what I want. Using the app called Digital Downloads-Filemonk, I have put an image called Download on my Shopify store. When the customer clicks the image, I want to send the customer a Microsoft Excel file at no charge. I do not understand what to call the product I am selling. Should I treat the Download image as the product and attach the Microsoft Excel file to that product? And how exactly would I do that? Thanks for your help.

I could not get the Filemonk app to work so I am now trying to use the Shopify Digital Downloads app. I followed all the steps on the Shopify Help Center but when I click the product to start the download, I just get an image of the product on the screen. Can you help with this?

Thanks for your email. I was able to use a different approach with the help
of a Shopify assistant and download files directly to the Downloads folder.
