How can I pull product data from my own API into Shopify?

Hi, I'm looking for a way to have Shopify pull products and inventory from my own server, which will be the single source of truth. I believe I read somewhere in the documentation that you can provide Shopify with a URL from which it can pull. Would anybody be able to point me to the proper docs for that?
