How can I require email sign up during checkout for a free digital product?

I am trying to find a way to require customers to sign up the my email list when getting a free digital product.

can anyone suggest an way to do this?

If you’d like to adjust your checkout so customers are required to enter an email, you can find this settings in the checkout settings of your admin (Settings > Checkout). It looks like this:

No, this is not what I need. I am aware of the options to collect data at checkout. This would be applied to all products, where as I want it to apply to certain digital products only.

This also does not give you permission to add them to your marketing email list. Gathering data at checkout, to my understanding is to facilitate the purchase from you (e.g. email them about their order) and does not mean the customer has opted into receiving email marketing.

I am trying to require email at checkout but I do not see this option. When I go into Customer Conatct I am only given "phone + email" or "email" options but it is still not requiring the email at checkout. I do have "account not required" selected, is this why?

I doubt you can implement this with a ready made solution. But your need can be met with the simple custom made Shopify app. If you need any assistance, please, don't hesitate to drop me a line.
