Google Analytics is replacing Universal Analytics code with the new Google Analytics 4. On July 1, 2023
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/11583528?hl=en
Shopify App Listing currently supports only Universal Analytics code, and there's no option to enter Google Analytics 4 id
Is there some way to embed GA4 in our app listing?

I share your concern.
As someone who dislikes Google Analytics, it would be great to have additional options for open-source alternatives such as Phantom, Plausible, or even for Shopify to add their own analytics features.
Looks like this is now possible:
Does it typically take a few days for data to start populating? Has anyone else had success with this?
For reference, you can find my app listing page at: https://apps.shopify.com/by-the-numbers
(Note: I verified that the GA4 code is present on the page, but after 24 hours, the analytics console is still empty)
How can I know what search terms people are using to find my app?
In UA, the pages had query params like search_id, search_details, etc. which contained this information.
But I am not receiving these details in GA4.
Hi @sniper2804,
Follow these steps:
1. Go to the Explore tab in the menu of your GA4 property
2. Create a new exploration by clicking on the '+' button (blank)
3. Then, click on dimensions '+' icon and do the following import:
4. Now click on Metrics '+' icon and do the following:
5. Now, double-click on these two:
6. You'll see the URL view where you can see the search terms (keywords) used to visit your app page / add your app.
Hope this helps!
Thanks 🙂
@KanishkT
Wow, that worked.
You rock bro!
Thanks 🙂
WoW I was not figuring that out on my own! I really appreciate it.
If I ever see you around I owe you a coffee!
Do you have any other tips?
@Avifrie You have to double click on the 'page location' and 'views' and then it will show up.
@KanishkT My bad! Thanks it works!!
Is there a legend of params Shopify send across so I can figure out what each of them mean?
@Avifrie this might be what you're looking for

You are awesome @KanishkT
I've been trying to figure this out, but just couldn't do this until I saw this. And BOOM. Works like a charm!
I do have one followup qs. though. This shows pageviews, but is there any metric/event to track App installs too? In the old GA we could track App installs using the earlier "events" but I'm unable to figure out how to track installs in GA4 😞
Please help!

Thanks @harshil_adesara 🙂
Yes. There's a way to track installs/Add App button clicks in GA4. To do this follow these steps:
1. Connect your app listing tracking/measurement ID (Starts with G-xxxxxxx) with your App. You can do this here:
2. Go to Settings > Events like this:
3. In front Add App button, you'll see mark as a conversion toggle. Enable it and you're good to go.
4. To track it later, go to Reports section in GA4, see for this:
If you don't find it then you can add it to your reports section by clicking on edit icon. Like this:
Hope this helps 🙂
Thank you very much @KanishkT! I'm wondering whether there's a possibility to have a better view of keywords only, as it's not clear enough with urls like apps.shopify.com/XXX?search_id=XXX&surface_detail=some+keyword&surface_inter_position=1&surface_intra_position=5&surface_type=search
I'm glad that it was helpful.
I think that's all we get from the GA4 for now. I don't know if they'll add more features in the near future. However, if you want to get detailed insights of your app listing traffic, keywords and other important things, you can give this solution a try (7 days for free): https://www.appstoreanalytics.io/
I was using this tool but due to some compatibility, I had to cancel their subscription. You can give it a try.

Do you know perhaps how to properly set up Google Tag Manager in order to track my embedded app user behavior? I think it's not straighhtforward since there are iframes used and GTM has problems tracking that.
Mine is coming up as disabled, I cannot click on it. Do I have to do something else to make it work?
ok nevermind, got it to work but I wanted to see what people are searching on google.com when they land on my app listing page. Is there a way to get that information? Because right now, it only says page referer is google and no more information. So basically what they searched on google to land on my app listing page, is there a way to find this information?
Hi everyone,
I am trying to get GA4 to work for our app store listing (apps.shopify.com/claimbase), but my GA account keeps saying, that there was no data received from the site, even after more than 48h...
I put in the GA4 measurement ID into my app store listing page, as it is explained in the Shopify docs, even added the GA api secret to my listing page, but even after 48h, no data comes through.
Same behaviour for a Shopify Teststore, that we have as Demo Store for the app. I created a separate property for it in my GA account, connected my GA account to the Store through the Google & Youtube Shopify app, that is installed in the shop, but also no data comes through there... Although the Google & Youtube app says, that data is being shared...
For another property in the same GA4 account, the one for our marketing website hosted on Wix, everything works fine.
Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong here? Would be highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Markus
Got it to work...
Deleted all my GTM containers, all my GA4 properties and started from scratch with a new property for our listing. Then it worked
