How do you deal with shipping Pre-order items?

I am fairly new to shopify and is wondering if there is a shipping app for pre-order items. I am not sure yet if the pre-order items may or may not have customization but how do we deal with shipping them? For example, a customer orders a readily available item and a pre-order item. How does that work on checkout? Is there an app that can help with that? Thank you.

It appears you have a price-based shipping rate that offers free shipping above $100, which does override the combined rates from the shipping profiles. If so, then you may need to delete the price-based shipping rate.

Do you not want to offer free shipping if a customer spends over $100 anymore?
