How do you feel about free trial vs free tier apps?

I see most apps offer a ~14 day free trial followed by a monthly subscription. I've never liked the idea of free trials so I've offered unlimited length, fully featured, limited monthly usage free tiers for my apps. Lately, I've been reconsidering this, but I also question how much merchants actually value a free tier, if it is valued at all?

How do you feel about apps that free trials relative to apps that offer free tiers? Do you expect to pay for Shopify apps or is free tier something you actively seek? Or is pricing secondary compared to the value an app brings?

Hi there!

In my opinion, I think free trial days is a good offer for us, Shopify's sellers to have first experience with the app. And of course, for me, I am willing to pay for higher plans if the features provided are worthy for my business. For example, at the moment, I am using UpPromote: Affiliate Marketing app. This is known as a great choice if you’re just starting up. They offers free plan with lots of generous features. You can easily start to build your team with unlimited affiliates, as well as create program with a specific commission structure. Also, I can push a specific product with lower margin, the feature named "Product commission" will help you to set specific commission for specific products. In addition, the app also allows to review up to 200 referral orders per month for free plan, and support you to assign coupon for affiliates. I think these basic features are useful if you are looking for an ideal affiliate marketing app to start your Shopify business. Now, I upgraded my plan already and it's worthy for the price!
