How many files per digital product and variant?

How many files per digital product and variant?

Hi,

I'm new to Shopify, so sorry if this has already been asked before.

On my store I was able to create a product with 3 different variants (using Shopify's Digital Downloads app), 2 of them contain more than 1 file. Like this:
Variant A: 1 mp3 file

Variant B: 1 mp3 file, 1 wav file

Variant C: 1 mp3, file, 1 wav file, 1 zip file

I was watching a YouTube video and the guy said we can only upload 1 file per product/variant.

I'm wondering if that video was shot before Shopify allowed multiple files in a recent update?

Here are the 2 moments he says it:

https://youtu.be/qgVboJ1hI7Q?t=232

https://youtu.be/qgVboJ1hI7Q?t=329

So yeah, I was able to upload the files, but I just want to make sure that this isn't a glitch and the customer will be able to see all uploaded files.

Shopify's own article mentions multiple files:

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/digital-service-product/digital-downloads#add-digital-fi...

"You can add multiple files per variant. You can also use a .zip file or another archive file format, which can bundle files together under a single file name."

I know this may sound obvious (I was able to upload multiple files and Shopify mentions adding multiple files, so it should be obvious), but I want to make sure I'm not missing something or interpreting things the wrong way before launching my store.

Thank you for any help you can give me!

I forgot to ask this: anyone experiencing bad performance with Digital Downloads app? I saw a lot of negative reviews, but so far, at least when it comes to adding products, no issues. Any feedback?

Individual experiences will vary.

Peoples expectations of what they should get for ~$30/mth often doesn't match reality.

Alot of merchants assume because their business needs X-feature that the platform should have it because they need it, ignoring the platform has to thread the needle for millions+ of merchant needs.

All first party apps on pretty much ANY platform should be assumed to be entry level experiences.

They are made to facilitate a feature in the most basic way and as a selling point in marketing.

If there are concerns about things like performance, or other behaviors, of a feature as a business requirement always invest in specialized apps.

Do not trust old videos, and to a point do not rely the shopify docs once you get into the weeds.

Setup, test and confirming on a live site is the ONLY source of truth about a features behavior.

Go through the customer journey add to cart , make a customer account, etc.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I completely agree that users tend to expect a product/service to have all the options in the world. That's impossible.

Some of the reviews I read, though, seem to be more about basic things that the app/service should provide, such as delivering the products to the customers, etc. That's the only issue I see here, even though on the comments on that video I shared, the video creator mentioned that they haven't had any issues with the app. So yes, each user has a different experience. Sometimes it's even how the user is not using the app/service as it should. Not always the case, but sometimes it is.

I think I will create a test account and buy some of my digital products, as well as ask some people who already seemed interested in purchasing them, to report back to me how their experience was.

I appreciate your time and feedback!

Hi Danny,
did you have success with having multiple digital files in one download?
