App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
How can I add/ edit infos of the Shopify Content API via a Feed in my Google Merchant Center?
I use the official Google & Youtube Shopify App https://apps.shopify.com/google to connect my Shopify Products to Google Merchant center via COntent API.
That works in general. But several product infos are missing and Google relevant data formats are not met while Shopify and the App does not support the CSV editing within Shopify of some Google specific data.
So my question is:
How can I add/ edit infos of the Shopify Content API via a Feed in my Google Merchant Center?
Important: I want to keep working with the COntent API - the COntent API should be not replaced by a Feed Upload.
How can I add/edit infos of the Content API in the Google Merchant Center?
I am aware of the Rules of attributes - but that is not sufficient for all of my requirements - so I still need a solution for the editing.
Just a specific example:
My product descriptions in Shopify include several emojis. Google does not like thos emojis in the product descriptions.
How can I get those emojis deleted in the google Merchant center - en bulk - not manually (solely in Google Merchant Center - they should stay in shopify) ?
As you don't want to use any other apps or tools, the only way is edit the data in Shopify manually.
As you asked for no apps or tools, then I can not share how to do this in bulk.
Well, I do not want to change the Product description in Shopify - as I want to keep the emojis in my product descriptions in shopify.
But in Google Merchant center those emojis cause issues - so there I want to delete emojis.
But I do not want to do that manually.
In Google Merchant Center there are attributes etc. available and I can set up Feeds - do they not offer any opportunity to solve my problem to bulk edit/add infos to the COntent API infos ?
If not. Which tool/ app do you suggest except Matrixify.
And how does the tool you suggest allow me to edit my product descriptions in bulk - without deleting the emojis manually ?
Would be great if you have an advice for me.
Thanks a lot
With all your specific criteria, you will not be able to achieve what you want. So unfortunately not much to give advice on.
You have to change your strict requirements if you want to complete your task.
My recommendation, use https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds
And use regular expressions to strip everything out.
Much quicker then what you want to do.
Thank you very much for your response and help.
Unfortunately I am not totally clear about which requirements you mean in detail?
For example what do you mean with "And use regular expressions to strip everything out.!" ?
That I should delete the emojis from the shopify description?
May I ask you: How exactly will https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds solve my issue ?
You can use regular expressions, to remove / strip out all emoticons. You will need to learn regular expressions, or ask for support from the multifeed team, and they usually help guide you.
If you don't know what regular expressions are, here is a wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression
Hey Emmanuel, I have changed my primary domain from .de to .com but my products urls in merchant center didn't update automatically. (I use content API and Google & Youtube Shopify). Now my products are disallowed because of Mismatched domains [link]. Do you know how I can fix this?
Try deleting the app, and adding it again.
Hi Emmanuel, I hope you can help me.
I have understood why my Content API doesn't synchronize with my GMC. I have contacted the google suppport and they told me that the merchant API (= Shopify App API) replaces the Content API so that we could sell also internationally. (They said the Content API will be deleted from my GMC automatically after 30 Days). Merchant API works with shopify markets and creates different feeds for every market and every language.
Here is their answer:
Now for example I sell in Germany and US . In Shopify Markets, in US my Shop has only English version, in Germany English and German versions.
So in my GMC have been created 3 new Data Feeds.
Now I have in total 4 Data Feeds 1 Content API and 3 Shopify App API.
Now my Question is the following: I use the Products from the Content API for my Google Shopping campaign and my google ads account has already learned which products are the bestsellers. Also I use on my Store the Custom Pixel for Remarketing, that I copied from your blog.
As I used the Content API, the Product ID (REMARKETING_COUNTRY_CODE) for Germany was DE.
Now In Mercant API as I understand, they changed DE into ZZ.
So what should I do in this case.
1. Change in the Remarketing Custom Pixel Code the REMARKETING_COUNTRY_CODE into ZZ? Would that not harm my Google Ads performance?
2. When they remove the Content API from my GMC and my existing products, for which I have already turned Shopping ads I will have to use the new ones from Mercahnt API in my Google shopping campaigns. Will that also not harm my Ad Performance, because I think Google will not understand that these are the Same Products? Or if I am wrong, how google will understand, that these are the same products.
Thank you in advance for your help.
If all new product ids are with ZZ, yes, you will need to choose ZZ as the remarketing_country_code
If you have both, then you will need to use the code twice.
Yes, historical performance will be gone, if the product IDs change. Performance will drop, but should recover in a week or months time.
