How to effectively build matrixed parts in Veeqo?

Hello, Our business uses Shopify for our site and Veeqo for inventory management/fulfillment.  However we build our parts in Shopify as Veeqo is very lacking.

We are trying to build Matrixed parts. So if we have a Tee Shirt, that comes in 4 sizes and three colors, it should be build as Tee1000-BLK-SZ.  Where the first bit is the item, the second part the color designation and the last part is the size.

However the system seems to want to simplify it and in turn, makes it more complicated.  Are there any good tutorials or walkthroughs of how to build a more complex item?
