How to filter products by color in large inventory?

Hello, I am trying to implement a new design, and would love to offer my customers a chance to filter by color.  The problem is my inventory has a long color list.  

For Example:

Beige
Black
Black & Beige
Black & Gold
Black & White
Blue
Brown
Burgundy
Cream

Does any know of an app where you can link color values?  

For Example:

Filter for Black, shows all colors for:

Black
Black & Beige
Black & Gold
Black & White 

I can't go backwards and change 5000 products - instead I need to somehow group the colors, into the main filtered colors.

There is no way you can implement this with a ready made solution. But your need can be met with the simple custom made Shopify app.

What you need is to merge option values, aka group colors like you said. You can use this app https://apps.shopify.com/ultimate-search-and-filter-1 to help merge values so you can show a compact list of colors on the storefront. In the app, navigate to App settings => Merge values.
