Images API does not provide a link to the original image

Hi all,

When I upload product images to my Shopify store, the images I am uploading have a transparent background.  If I view them in the admin, or on my storefront, and download them through the UI, the pictures I download are those originals with the transparent backgrounds.

When I use the API to get the list of images and their URLs, however, the URL does not link to the image that I originally upload.  Rather, at that URL is an image that has a whitish/greyish background that is not transparent, and is often a different size than the one I uploaded.

How can I get a link to the original image?  Why does the API send me to a different image that doesn't show anywhere in the admin or on my storefront?
