App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
We sell products that are made up of many component products. Because we often have to substitute products, make customizations, deal with broken product, etc. I need an inventory system that doesn't use orders to track inventory.
My solution is to use a barcode scanner. I want to simply be able to scan out every product that gets used to decrement inventory.
Inventory would not be tied to orders at all nor would it directly effect (ie mark sold out) products on our site. We would have one set of products for the website and another set for the component products. Think of individual flowers as the components (which would be tracked) and the bouquets as the product on our website (not tracked). Simply before adding a component product we scan it and scanning it would decrease the count of that product by one.
I am wondering if there is an app suitable for this? I have looked into many of the shopify inventory apps with scanning functionality and it seems they are meant to be used with inventory takes at regular intervals not to be used as an always-on scanner that can be used throughout the day every day and adjust the count in real time.
Wondering if there is a good app for this application? Perhaps it would have to be a POS app since I think this is more commonly a retail application.
I realize that since it's not affecting orders or products on the site it doesn't necessarily have to be a Shopify app, I am just used to keeping most software we use within the Shopify ecosystem.
Thanks!
Hi @Shawn17
ConnectPOS has just released a stock-take feature that allows users to count the product quantity in their inventory, either manually or by scanning the products.
